About
I have started this blog to track my progress in the world of Internet affiliate marketing.
I first heard of affiliate marketing in around 2007 after a friend acquired the Rich Jerk ebook. We quickly read through it and decided to give its methods a try. Unfortunately we didn’t get rich as quickly as we hoped so gave up and I forgot all about affiliate marketing.
About two years later, around the start of 2009, I heard of someone who had made their fortune from the Internet so I thought I’d give Internet affiliate marketing another try. After a bit of research I came across this thread on the Affiliates4u forum and decided to try out the methods being posted.
After setting up a few websites I decided I would start this blog to help me keep track of what I have been doing and maybe get some input from other affiliate marketers.
Update: Well its now about two years since I started doing affiliate marketing properly and I’m still working away at it. I’m not making as much money as I’d like but more than I was before I started! Still mainly focusing on exact match keyword domain niche sites but slowly moving into more general, bigger sites but having trouble getting them ranking. My main focus at the moment is understanding link building and how to get backlinks for my sites which is something I’ve neglected for a long time. I think for me to move up a level in terms of earnings I need a good system for getting links to my sites.
Update (May 2012): It’s over three years since I started doing internet marketing. I had a pretty good year in 2011 making an average of £1500 per month. After taking a few months out at the end of 2011 my sites started to drop in the rankings, getting less visitors and therefore making less money. 2012 hasn’t started that great with monthly earnings down about 50% from 2011. After a recent set of Google updates (Penguin and Panda 3.5) I am about to give up the niche site approach and start on a big authority type site in the fitness niche.

Hi
Just stumbled across your site and found it very useful, thanks.
Have been messing about with Affiliate Marketing for a while but never spend too much time on it.
Working on a new B2B site at the moment and found your content very useful, thanks.
I hope your income from Affiliate Marketing continues well!!
Mark
I’d suggest you to build 1-2 Authority sites that you have passion about and could write a few piece of content weekly.
I found it’s much easier to rank. I could get to page 2 after posting right the way – maybe just low competition niche.
After Panda update, some of my authority type of sites still rank.

I’ve had the most success with niche sites myself. I constantly find it difficult to rank sites at times. Going to keep at it since it seems like one of the most proven and honest ways to make passive income online.
I agree that you need to find a good system to develop links. That is the step I am stuck on as well. If I don’t get the traffic to my sites I won’t make the money. Very frustrating!

For the record… your blog kicks mine straight to the curb. You got a lot of stuff here! Keep in touch.
Cheers Alan. This blog does have a lot of pages but is mainly me moaning about not making enough money!
