Back from my Holidays
I’m almost back from my holidays. Just spending a few days making use of a broadband connection and my laptop before returning to Thailand. I did no work in July and still made the same amount of money I made in June which was really nice so had my two best months earnings-wise back to back.
Now that I’ve had a few days with my laptop and a decent Internet connection I’ve been checking my all my sites to see if they are still working and ranking ok. One of my first fairly successful sites has just been overtaken in the SERPS and has been pushed to number two which was sad to see but I hadn’t updated it in over six months so can’t really complain. I’ve since moved it over to WordPress and written more content for it in the hope of getting it back to number one but am not loosing too much sleep over it as its a seasonal domain and its season is about to end.
I registered two domains yesterday. They are both clothing sites. Clothing sites seem to be a bit hit and miss but I will stick something basic up for each of them and see what happens.
My big site is still floundering. It gets some long tail traffic but nothing for the keywords I am targeting.
Which brings me on nicely to my main problem: backlinks!
I have no clue how to get them so am going to focus this month on finding out how to outsource them. Once I have found out how to pay for them I will be apply them to all my sites.
My goal at the moment is to be earning £2000 per month by Christmas (so I can give up the day job) and then £3000 per month by June 2010.
Wish me luck!

welcome back, wouldn’t mind a month off myself. Be careful to build links regularly, don’t have spikes in your link building profile or you’ll draw unwelcome attention of the automated variety.
For outsourcing, odesk is quite nice. Get yourself a team of dusky maidens at $3 an hour and put your feet up.
I assume you meant July 2011 – unless your inventing a time machine
My target is similar, £2k per month, then go full time and push it a bit more.
^ should have been June 2011, not July
Good to see you back in the saddle! I have similar targets myself but I don’t think I’ll meet them in the timeframes you’re aiming for. I’d like to do £1500 a month as a base. This would allow me to quit the day job (albeit with a little pay cut!) with the perfect goal to be up around £3000 per month.
At the moment, I’m only doing about £450 a month profit (off about £650 revenue) so I am a long, long way away.
I have 3 sites, only 1 of which is earning any real revenue and the other 2 are still floundering about in the SERPs with virtually no traffic or earnings.
I have started a PPC campaign for one of the 2 (my bar stools site) which is currently losing money but with some tweaking I am hoping to turn a profit on that one. Even still, if it paid off, I could only foresee it making £150 a month max which still leaves me a long way off my Quit Zone!
Good luck with your own journey, keep us posted.
I think you could definetely have a £2000+ month either in Nov or Dec (if you work hard enough) but I think it will be hard to maintain that level once the Christmas rush is over.
Now is the perfect time to prepare for Christmas – wasn’t Dec 09 one of your best ever months, and if I remember you left it a little late.
Yes I need to start with my Christmas sites now.
Last December year was my best month and I hadn’t really prepared.
This year will be different!
Whoops!
Sounds like a good plan. I really need to ramp by efforts up. Hopefully if I can find a way to get some backlinks for my sites I can get some more of them ranking for decent keywords.
