Sounds interesting. Is no control panel a good thing?

If you're brave and have some sort of techie knowledge, get your own unmanaged VPS (I used xensmart.co.uk) super-fast (no control panel) and UK hosted, so the SERPS love it.

I couldn't say to be honest. Some of my sites rank well but perhaps they would be better if hosted in the UK.

Hostgator is very cheap so it does me well. Maybe when I am earning more money I will switch to a UK host but for now I am happy with it.

I notice HostGator is a U.S bases host. Do you think this effects SERP's at all?

I've found problems recently when if I set-up a robots.txt file with Disallow: / in the file, placed in the root folder of my site. This blocks search engines from indexing my site (This is done so I can develop the site online without Google or other search engines indexing pages with links that may change as it can be a pain to get these broken links removed). When I'm ready to launch the site I modify the robots.txt file to say Allow: / but Google seem to take ages (weeks) to re-index.

Just thought I'd share this incase anyone else has noticed problems with doing this.

Cheers

I use Hostgator for hosting. They are pretty good and cost about £6 per month for seemingly unlimited hosting of multiple domains which is good.

Here is my affiliate link:
http://secure.hostgator.com/cgi-bin/affiliates/clickthru.cgi?id=joe3000

I use 123reg.co.uk for .uk domains as they are about £6.88 and namecheap.com for .com domains. I recommend both.

Hi,

Can I ask who do you use for Webhosting and Domain Names?

Having issues with UK2.net ... quite possibley the worst service I have ever encountered and was wondering who you use.

Regards,
David

Been reading your blog over the weekend and am following your progress with interest! I launched a site on Friday evening (knocked it together in a couple of hours) and have ensured my SEO and validation is as good as it can be. Google bot has visited my site but it has yet to appear in the search results, I am hoping it will be there within a couple of weeks.
I haven't had much luck with digg in the past (18 months ago) but that's not to say it doesn't work. I find getting a few of back links from large, well established websites help massively.

Good luck and keep up the good work!
