Thanks Joe That's one of my sites and the last couple of pages should be up soon :-)

My sites did OK with penguin I have no inbound link penalties for sure, I may have had an on page ding on one site that's all.. Panda is still kicking me around. I will let the dust settle then go to work.

Hi Neale. I think you put the wrong URL in your comment! Any plans to update the site? I like reading the $500 challenge. How did your sites do post-Penguin?

Each site used H1 tags for the post/page titles which all continued the keyword and some other words like a brand name or review.

Neither site uses H2 or 3 tags and both have pretty high keyword densities.

I am going to change this on the site that got hit but not sure how important it is? I know everyone says it is.

Awesome post thank you great details, Any chance you can add a comparison of on site optimization, h1 tags alt tags, main keyword in content density. Thanks in advance!

<a href="#comment-59075">@Joe</a>

Thanks Joe. You're right, it's a lot easier writing the content, and where as before I was trying to stretch articles out to try and make 300-400 words, I'm now finding I have to trim my guides/articles down because I've just got so much to say, but I don't want the content to be too long winded. My 'typical day' article was originally 2000 words long before I chopped it down!

What's also great is the research I do into new things related to bike track days doubles up as not only great content, but it also helps me progress with motorcycle riding personally so it's win win from that point of view.

I'm also quite involved in the community, so when it gets to a fairly decent size and I believe it is quite a complete resource I will start a bit of social marketing. Right now though it's just content, content, content.

The site got indexed in about 24 hours which I was amazed at, but a month later I'm only seeing just a trickle of traffic. However I did notice only last week that an issue with the latest version of Joomla is causing multiple URLs to be created for the same content, which Google then picks up and thinks you have loads of duplicate content as it says in my webmaster tools. I've since fixed that issue and am waiting for the spiders to come and visit again, then hopefully I'll see the traffic start to pick up.

I don't know if it's going to be a success, but I did do quite a lot of keyword research so I know there's people looking for my content, that coupled with quite a lot of revenue streams that can be created from a site like this (affiliate, adsense, private advertising, classifieds, directories, ebooks etc) gives me a good gut feeling that I can make it work. Don't know if you don't try eh :)

Oh and thanks a lot for the Twitter mention. Appreciate it! I don't know if you saw but I have a fitness article on my site, when yours is up and running I'd love to link it to your site where people can go for more information if you'll allow me.

Hi Danny. Thanks for posting your comment.

I really like your site, its good to see someone making a site about something they are really into. I guess it makes writing new content easier when its something you are actually interested in.

Is it getting much traffic yet?

I will check out that ebook you recommend.

Cheers, Joe

Joe,

Do you know of any software (besides SEMRush) where you plug a specific URL and it gives a listing of keywords that that specific page is ranking for.

I've lost some rankings for some sites and now other pages are ranking better for the keyword than my root domain. I want to find where the root domain is ranking for the specific keywords.
