Monthly Round-up: December 2011

Better late than never I guess! Not much to report for December. None of my Christmas sites from previous years were ranking so I wasn’t expecting anything from them and I was right.

Didn’t really do much work overall as had people visiting and it was Christmas. The work I did was based around trying to claw back some of my rankings taken from me in the Google update of October. Some sites have come back but not the main ones, at least not for all their keywords they were ranking for.

Some days were really quiet in December and I actually made no sales at all which was quite rare and then other days I was making over £50.

Still using Unique Article Wizard with mixed success, it does work sometimes but depends on where you’re articles are submitted and how competitive the sites you are trying to rank are.

My Earnings for December 2011 were £1300 / $1990 gross

2011 in a Few Words

Overall 2011 has been a great year. I had some great holidays visiting some new countries (Australia, Malaysia, plus lots of places in Thailand) we had a baby, I quit my job to be a stay at home dad and full-time (more like part-time internet marketeer) and I managed to make £1840 in one month from affiliate marketing. But in purely affiliate marketing terms the year has ended on a low note. I feel three years in affiliate marketing and I still don’t really know what I am doing. If someone gave me some money and said “build a site for me that would make money” I wouldn’t be confident of being able to do so as so far my portfolio is very hit and miss. The 80/20 rule is definitely in effect! I’m still no expert on picking a niche and keywords and not much better when it comes to link building. My average earnings for 2011 were £1500 per month which is pretty good considering the hours I put in but not yet up to my goal of £2000 per month. Now I am no longer working in a day job and I am using my internet earning for living expenses so I’ve got much less to reinvest which has slowed me down quite a bit. I really want to get earning a few extra £100 a month so I can start reinvesting again and try and boost my income.

Goals for 2012

I just want to make more money really! £2000 per month would be great, £3000 per month would be amazing. My plans are to try and improve the rankings of my top 5 earners from 2011, continue building up one of my ‘big sites’ I started last year and get some more Adsense sites up and running. A new service is being launched at the Online Income Lab where you can hire a VA through them to build a site right through from researching the keyword to installing WordPress and doing the backlinking. I’m keen to give this a go as it sounds very hands off which is good as I have little time. Also these sites should be easy to sell on flippa or just keep and get some more money coming in.

How was your 2011 and what are your plans for 2012? Is internet marketing dead?

Please don’t go down the flippa rout of selling low quality sites lol.. There are some that do well. I personally would not waste any money on hiring a VA to do the research and install etc.. what is the point?

you probably have more niches then you could do something with. Anyways definitely envious of you, I ma thinking of dropping everything and just move to Malaysia to be honest. I just want to live in seclusion for a while..lol

I hope you and your family are all well

Hi Joe, happy new year to you, albeit a little late lol.

To earn 1500 a month on average from AM isn’t something that you should put yourself down about. You’re doing well.

I agree with Monsoor, don’t get too many small niches, focus on fewer than have more potential and more commercial value.

I’d suggest you start thinking about investing in websites and not so much just niches. I know it’s easier said than done as it can be an easy trap to fall into, because niche sites seem to give the quickest return for little investment.

    Goodluck for 2012

Thanks Gary, happy new year to you too!

When you say investing in websites do you mean buying websites or setting up new websites that are bigger than just small niche sites?

    Cheers.

Hi Joe, Firstly congratulations on your income, and it’s certainly not something to be down about.

I’m currently earning £200 a month from AdSense sites but am now working on affiliate sites too and hope to earn more this year aiming for £500 a month.

Good luck with your aims for 2012.

    Hi Joe,

I think we started in AM at the same time (whatever happened to your monthly progress thread on A4U?!) so I lurk on your blog every now and again but this is my first time commenting. You really shouldn’t be so hard on yourself. Your business is growing, you had the guts to take action and move to Thailand, just keep taking consistent action and you’ll get there. You also probably know a lot more about AM than you realise.

Congrats on your new arrival, and best wishes for the year ahead.

It’s so difficult, isn’t it? But the thing is, you have to step out of the situation a moment and instead of get taken aback by all the latest cool ideas to make money online, I’ve found you have to have a proper strategy.

A real plan, based on as many real facts as possible.

In your case, you ARE making £1500 a month. There must be some elements within that revenue stream that you can duplicate.

You’ve done it once, you can do it again. Why not? instead of £2000 a month, just do everything you’ve already done all over again and make £3000 a month.

I know this works because I’ve done it myself. My view is that you know how to build the small niche sites that make you a bit here and there and have made you £1500 a month so far so just build more!

When youve finished building and your revenue is at your target £2000 a month, then start thinking about OTHER ways to make money.

But I reckon if you applied yourself, you could easily be doing 2k by end of year.

Diversify your niches, have sites for all seasons and just work. Work, work, work. Smartly. 7 solid hours a day for ONE month and you’ll see a huge difference.

    Hi Joe,

It’s my first time on your site, and I just wanted to say that £3000 per month is definitely doable and going way beyond that just involves more marketing/promotion.

I’m from the States so my money is in dollars:

For myself personally, it’s taken me about 3 months to finally figure out how to be a successful affiliate for something called binary options trading (they pay me $200 for every new depositing trader). So far this month I’ve made around $5K, usually getting 2 or 3 new traders a day (which is $400 to $600 daily occasionally just $200).

All my efforts are done through youtube, buying youtube views, paying a small fee to get my video featured on facebook fan pages, on twitter and so on.

I’m also teaming up with another affiliate to massively promote it. His dreams seem a little too grand right now as his dream come true would be to get $100K a month, but I still think that is farrrr away in the distance. For me $100K a year online would be great!

All this is to say, that there’s a lot more money out there for you to make, no point putting a limit on yourself.

Anyways, great site and here to help if you want any advice!

    Hi Hzambrana,

Thanks for commenting. Never heard of binary options trading. Do you have any more info? I wouldn’t mind a bit of the type of commissions you are getting.

    Cheers,

    Joe

@WhiteKnight what you say about doing what I’ve already done to make £1500 over again to make double that makes sense but I don’t really have the time or the resources to repeat what I’ve done.

Now AM is my only income I have less to invest which is really holding me back. If I had £1500 per month spare cash coming in I would build lots of new sites but as it is I hardly have any spare cash left over. Or spare time for that matter! I think these are my biggest two problems.

    Hi Joe,

There are multiple platforms to promote some are not worth your time as they only pay $50 per person, yeah it sounds great but I’ve just been offered $350 per person for another platform (haven’t started promoting that one yet). The one I promote with great success is called OptionBit.

You asked what is Binary Options…

Binary Options is different then normal trading. What you do is predict whether a stock, currency, or commodity will go up or down in a certain period of time. You put money on that trade and if you are right you can make 81% profit. So a winning trade of $100 would bring it up to $181, the original plus the 81% profit. The negative, however, is that if you are wrong you lose the whole hundred dollars.

I don’t trade Binary Options myself, but I promote the platform OptionBit to others by sharing a generally successful system and video on landing page I designed. They watch it, get hooked on the idea, and then they sign up with OptionBit, deposit money and then my affiliate account gets credited with $200 per person that deposits. Now that my video ranks relatively high on youtube, I just watch the stats each day as the money builds. :) It’s addictive, I want to keep pushing it forward and seeing how much potential it has.

I wrote my email for this comment. If you’d like more info, feel free to email me.

    Cheers!
