Outsourcing link building with ODesk – First Job Finished

I just received an email from the guy who I had contracted to build me 120 links using the Angela & Paul packet service thing via ODesk.

I got sent an Excel spreadsheet with links to 120 forum profiles and in each profile my website was given as the users website with the anchor text I had provided.

I have checked to see if the backlinks have been recognised yet using the http://www.backlinkwatch.com/ website but I guess it is too early for them to show up. I will be keeping an eye on this and seeing if my site moves up in the SERPS. It is currently at number two after recently being knocked from the number one spot it had held for a over a year.

I paid $11.11 for these 120 links. I’m not quite sure where the Angel & Paul packet part comes into play but I’m pretty sure I could do this myself if I had the time and the inclination.

I’ve got another order of the same but for another site currently being worked on by another contractor so will see whose work I like best before picking one. Or maybe I will use them both.

At the moment this is the only link building method I am using part from the odd link swap through the a4u forum.

I will report back once the links have settled.

Has anyone else used this kind of link building method or do you know of any other link building methods?

I haven’t really done any backlinking myself – but I need to. I’m going to do some forum profile links myself as I have the time on my hands. I would be interested in your results.

I was just looking on another forum site where some creative people have pretty much got backlinking covered – at least via forum profiles. (I think the main site sell some kind of tool that does it for you – some people are creating 1000+ per DAY)

One interesting trick they use is to look for other prolific backlinkers rss feeds (that they use to get links indexed quicker), point their tool at it, rip all the forum urls out and get their own profiles created automatically! Sneaky!

They also setup Google alerts for known backlinker usernames so whenever they setup a new backlink (that Google can easily find) they get to hear about it and do the same! Even sneakier!

I’m still working my way through and trying to make sense of it all – but in the meantime I’ve got a list of 9000 forums I can join …

UPDATE: Got my doubts about this forum profile backlinking business! I checked some on that list of forums I got – it was only two months old but already a LOT of them were closed, “over bandwidth allocation” or the profiles were deleted. Did you check the forum profiles that were created for you? Are they still there?

For those forums that showe member lists, you can see literally 100′s of profiles being created daily (nearly all for backlink purposes) so if Google doesn’t already completely ignore links in forum profiles I am sure it soon will as it’s being abused to hell!

Nevertheless I did create manually about 30 today (dullest job ever) and published half of them on my identi.ca feed to see if that speeds up indexing.

It’ll be interesting to see if either of our profile efforts lead anywhere but I think we’ll have to wait a few weeks at least.

I used an RSS feed tool thing to get my backlinks indexed quicker. Not sure if it has worked yet.

I wouldn’t be suprise if Google or forum owners get wise to this and start devaluing the back links.

If you were a forum owner and getting 100s of new sign ups who then went on to never make a post your might start cleaning up some of those accounts, especially if they never even log in.

I see on Wicked Fire people are creating 1000s a day for their sites.

I used ODesk to do the same job…cos me more than $11 but got the exact same thing…a list of forum profiles!

I am not sold at all on this idea…like Ray said, if google hasnt already caught onto this then they obviously will, especially with people creating 1000′s of them a day!!!!!

Whats worse is google could even penalise sites with excessive amounts of forum profile links!

I am going to have to re-think ways to build ‘quality’ liniks..maybe money is best saved and spent on other areas for now.

    Hi David,

I just tried someone else who charged $5.50 and his links looked the same as the other guy. Still waiting for any of them to be indexed by either Yahoo or Google.

Would Google penalise a site with this kind of links? If so couldn’t I just sign a rival site up for a few 1000 links to get them penalised and taken out of the competition?

The only way I can think of to get quality back links is to either build a site yourself and then link it to your other site or build a site so amazing people will be linking to it but I can’t imagine that ever happening.

The time and resources it would take to build a site so great lots of people are spontaneously linking to it (and using the right anchor text) just doesn’t seem feasible. The niche would have to be massive to get that kind of exposure surely?

I guess money is best spent on content at the moment if you want to be safe.

I don’t think google would penalise you for forum links because as you say you could sign up a competitors site. FYI two of my links have been picked up by Google – both ones I published through identi.ca

Do you think google can spot them though and know they’re spam?
Perhaps if they get indexed all at the same time it might be noticable but a slow steady stream of them might get away with it.

Would love to see the list of forums they use though!

Yeah, i see your point about getting other sites penalised….so maybe Google wont penalise you but almost certainly the mighty google will clearly be able to see how all these sites are getting ‘false’ links from forum profiles and will just ignore these links, so all the money spent getting them will be pointless.

Obviously these are just my assumptions but if history is anything to go by, google quickly pickup on these kind of tactics and ignore/devalue them.

I’ve tried forum profiles on a mini site and they do seem to have given the site a boost in the serps – though I’ve also given the same site a few article links.

They are a little spammy so I’m reluctant to use that method on my bigger sites. What you have to watch out for is getting too many too soon, and also it’s probably not a good idea to only have links from profiles. Try to get some article, blog post and other less spammy links too. It’s also a good idea put the link in a couple of lines of text rather than just a link.

If anyone fancies a link exchange (toys, tvs, camping, kitchen stuff) or wants to share ideas feel free to email me via the site linked from my username.

    Thanks

Have a read of this blog post: http://shanebrown.co.uk/outsourcing-backlinks/

I guess we will have to wait and see. I don’t really know how else to get back links apart from blog commenting which I am trying so once these links get indexed I will probably order some more profile links for my sites.

I don’t think that Google will penalize you. It might give a very low value to those links, though.

I have used a variety of link builders on odesk. There are many junk link builders and also quality link builders. The key is to find someone that will build quality links, write good, relevant content, and not get your site banned.

Here is someone that I have used that was very good.
