Anyone looking for a Content Writer?
January has been one of my worst months in affiliate marketing in terms for earnings for as long as I can remember. For the first part of the month I was depressed that I didn’t have enough time or money to devote to getting my sites back where they once were and bringing in a better amount of money.
After the depression stage I started to think about other ways I could make money while at home. Then I got an email from Tom Ewer whose newsletter I signed up to from his blog Leaving Work Behind. Tom has recently become a full-time online worker deriving some of his income from affiliate marketing. Tom also makes some of his money from content writing and in his newsletter he outlined the benefits of doing this for a good source of online income.
In the past I’d not been keen on doing content writing. Working for someone else again seems like a bit of a step backwards after quitting the day job to become my own boss. Also why write for someone else when you could write for yourself and make money from the websites you publish your own content on.
But due to my decline in earnings from affiliate marketing I need to start looking for other ways to bring in some money especially now this is my only source of income after going full time.
So my question is: does anyone do content writing and what are my chances of making money from doing it?
I think I can write ok, I am a native English speaker with an honours degree (knew it would come in handy one day
so what are my chances and how much could I earn?Ideally I’d like to devote just one hour a day to it and charge £10 an hour bringing in £50 a week or $80. This would be a good amount of time vs income as it would cover my day to day living expenses but still give me time to work on my affiliate marketing projects. Is this realistic though? What if someone wanted me to write 1000 words on the symptoms of chicken pox? How long would it take me to research?
If anyone has any tips on becoming a content writer it would be great to hear from you, also if you are looking for a content writer please get in touch using the contact form on the contact page.

Monthly Round-Up: May 2010
May 2010 was my best month in affiliate marketing so far apart from December 2009. I did quite well last month so wasn’t sure if I would be able to top it but was very pleased when I did. Also one of my sites that started the month off well and was on page one in Google got knocked way down the SERPS for some reason at the start of the month and didn’t make any more more sales. But a few of my other sites stepped up and I made a good income for May. Also during this month my Adwords account was suspendde due to non payment until the last few days of May so I only spent about £9 on clicks which was very good.
A fair amount of this traffic was seasonal though so I need to keep working other sites to keep me going all year round.
I’ve also been doing a lot of outsourcing. I’ve been getting someone to write product descriptions for me which keeps me supplied with fresh content for my sites and is something I would definitely recommend to anyone who has trouble motivating themselves to write content.
I have also outsorced the design of a webstie which I am very pleased with. I will be using this design for my PPC financial leads project so I wanted something good and I was happy with what I got. I will be starting work on this in June.
I will be away for six weeks from the start of July so am trying to get as much done before then as probably won’t be able to do much affiliate marketing work whilst on the road.
How was your May 2010?
