Don’t Forget to Check your Links!

One of my main sites hasn’t been doing too well this month.  As the number of visitors were down slightly this month I had shrugged it off as August being a quiet month.  Yesterday I was going through the merchant (Amazon) stats for the site and I discovered some of the items I had been sending people to where out of stock and in a couple of cases the product had been removed completely giving the user a customised ‘page cannot be found’ message.

I quickly checked all the links on that site and spent the whole day updating them so they either pointed to a merchant who had the item in stock or removed the link entirely.  This was pretty time consuming but hopefully it will have been worthwhile.

I guess this highlights the benefit of having a few big sites rather than having to keep track of lots of little sites.  Thankfully I was using a link redirect script so changing the links wasn’t too much hassle as they are all held in one file.  I guess using something like Easy Content Units where links to out of stock items are hidden would’ve saved me some work but this site was build before I started using ECUs.

Blogroll and Links Added

I was having a bit of trouble with adding the links widget to this theme in WordPress but have now resolved it.

This means you can now see the links I have added to this blog.  The blogroll contains links to other affiliate marketing blogs I read and there are also links to other sites I have found useful or interesting.

You can find them on the right side of the page a bit further down.
