Big Site #1: Comedy Box Sets
I’ve setup and started the first of my two big sites. It is called Comedy Box Sets and can be found at this address: http://comedyboxsets.co.uk/
I watch a lot of comedy TV serieses and after seeing a profitable affiliate site about a TV series I thought why not try and combine a hobby (is watching TV a hobby?) with an affiliate marketing venture.
I am not too worried about the design at the moment and am going to be focussing on adding content for the time being.
The plan is that as I watch a comedy show I will write a little bit about the series of the episode on the blog and put some links to merchants that sell that DVD. If there is any merchandise available for the show I will link to that also. Then there is tickets for standup comedy shows and films that the actors are in.
I know alot of people are downloading TV shows now but I hope there are still some people out there buying DVDs.
I am going to try and promote the site using as many means as possible and have setup a twitter account for it and will probably do a facebook group. Does anyone know how to get lots of twitter followers quickly? I think I will do a mailing list at some point too.
It is not going to be the most profitable of sites but I hope it will be fun to write and something that will hold my interst over the months and years.
My other big site will hopefully be more profitable as it will be selling a wider range of items at a wider range of prices but I am yet to start that one.

Another New Site
Another new site was setup and indexed this weekend. I will be referring to this site as #20. I made it over a couple of days based on my standard template using HTML, CSS and a touch of PHP.
I bookmarked it in digg, delicious and twitter and it was indexed less than 12 hours later finding itself in the top half of page one in Google. According to the Google Keyword Tool the keyword this site is based around got 6,600 exact matches in April (last month) in the UK. So far it hasn’t had any hits from being on page one in the SERPS so we shall see…
The site doesnt have too much content at present and I am experimenting with Easy Content Units a bit more by placing the ECU right at the front of the page showing a selection of products and their prices rather than the usual price comaprison I have been using it for.
I’ve started on another site in a similar niche using the same layout but haven’t had the motivation to finish it off and have been working on existing sites instead as they are making me money so get my time. Both these new sites are for items costing over £100 so if they do make some sales I should be looking at some healthy commissions for a change. I have also registered another domain for a site in a similar niche which I will probably get to work on when I get back from my holidays.

Twitter!
I’ve just setup a twitter account for my affiliate marketing activities. I’m not quite sure how it can help me but I’m sure I can get some benefit from it.
I’ve also integrated my twitter feed into this blog using a WordPress plug-in which displays the last few tweets from my account, again, I’m not quite sure how that will be of use but I will leave it for now and see if I can think of anything.
Not a very productive evening but still a big hungover from last night so taking it easy. Lots to do tomorrow!

No Sales Today
So far April has been a good month in the world of affiliate marketing, I’d made a few sales each day through amazon and some sales from sites that hadn’t made a sale yet.
But today I woke up and checked amazon first thing as usual to find I had made no sales the previous day.
I decided to spend my time at work focusing on affiliate marketing rather than my day job and posted on a few blogs to try and get some backlinks although most of them turned out to be ‘nofollow’.
I also singed up for Hub Pages and made two pages for two of my sites. Not really sure how this works and it something I will look into over the weekend but at the least it should be a backlink and at the best will get me lots of traffic.
Also looked at how I could integrate twitter with a WordPress blog as this could be useful for getting people to subscribe and then return to the sites.
Someone has offered to write some content for one of my blogs in exchange for a couple of links so will see how that goes.
Finally I looked at how I could get a ‘email this to a friend’ type tool for my sites in case someone stumbled across one of my sites and knew someone who might find it useful.
Got the next few days off work so will try and hammer as much content for my sites and do some more research on backlinks.
